Radioactive dating has revolutionized geology. Geologists are able to figure out the different ages of the specimens accurately. A remain could now have a history and an age. The method was easy which enabled geologists to put an age label on every specimen easily. It was a convenient means of understanding the history of man and the environment.

So, yes, radioactive dating has had a significant impact on geology to the point of revolutionizing it. Not only this, isotopes of different half lives can be used for specimens dating back different times. For instance, carbon dating is used for specimens aging 75000 years.
