The closure temperature is known as the temperature that is present at the calculated age of the specimen. Hence, it means the closing temperature for the specimen. The temperature of the atmosphere when the specimen died.

This allows the scientist to calculate the effects of the environment on the specimen and how it affected his being and his surroundings. Often mummies are buried amid a number of relics that act as clues to the happenings of the era. It is still uncertain as to what function they serve but some ideas can be created given the estimated time of death and the environmental temperature at the time.
