There are many factors to be considered to determine how long it will take to get to mars. Mars is the second closest to the earth after Venus. The distance between Earth and Mars is not constant. The mars is closer to the earth when the mars is at it closest to the sun and Earth at its farthest from the Sun. The planets will be about 33.9 million miles apart. This has never been recorded in history. The closest the two planets have been is 34.8million miles apart, this was recorded in 2013.

The fastest space craft ever launched is NASA's new horizon mission. If this spacecraft is to be visit Mars on a straight line, it will take an average of 162 days. Farthest approach will take 289 days and closest approach will take 41 days. It is ideal to say it will take over 200 days to travel to Mars.
