Amateur tennis players seem to get elbow pain more often than pro players. In tennis, hitting a backhand puts stress on the joint of the elbow and the surrounding muscles. Poor playing techniques and griping the racquet too tight cause tears in the tendon. Due to the experience and how pro players apply good techniques, elbow pain is not common among them.

Elbow pain can also occur in anyone that is involved in activities that strain the muscles and tendons of the elbow. It is usually painful especially when the person needs to lift or hold something. If the injury is not allowed to heal properly it can cause the tendon to be weakened permanently.
