Spongebob Squarepants is created by Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. He was a marine biologist thus the characters and setting of the show takes place under the sea or as we all know Bikini Bottom. Hillenburg originally named the character Spongeboy and the show Spongeboy Ahoy! But these were already trademarked so he changed it to Spongebob Squarepants that, for me, sounds more catchy and more memorable.

The show debuted on July 17, 1999, and was liked by many viewers not only in the United States but around the globe. Until now, the show is still being aired on Nickelodeon and its fame never dies down. It continues to gain more fans and be nominated in different award bodies.
