Geography! That hard subject about rocks? Says my friend.
Little did people know that Geography is all about where people live, what they eat, drink, and use for their daily energy.
Geography is such an interesting subject that tells us how different components known to us combined and formed our home Earth, human beings, animals, and the many machines that we use.
Without Geography, people would be guessing how certain places look like and how people around the globe use their environment. Amazingly, Geography begins at our homes, from the trees outside the garden, the livestock we are keeping, the stones used in building our homes, the electricity lighting our homes, the rains that make our land produce, the list is so big.
Without the Earth, we would never be studying other subjects as well, and through Geography, we study the Earth, the changes taking place in different regions and the life outside our own world.

As so many other subjects in school are plagued with: the best in a specific subject are not drawn to teaching. English may be the only exception here, but that’s for another day. A lot of people do not set out to become teachers when they study geography or some of the more specialized sciences. Instead, they are aiming to make a difference in their field. So, most geography teachers do not have a lot of hands-on, first-hand experience in the subject.

However, there are more ways to learn than in a classroom. Watching a documentary about the landscape, visiting interesting sites, and even learning more about a different culture can all count as learning about geography. Most of these can be done on your own time, at your pace, in the way you learn best.

Geography is by no means boring, but the teaching of it may be. Perhaps good geographers are not drawn to teaching and so swathes of students learn about the subject from someone who is not sufficiently passionate. If you learned from someone who had travelled widely and investigated the Earth's phenomena, you might find the subject more exciting.

But if you've ever longed to visit places with the highest mountain, the longest waterfall, the scariest caves or weirdest rock faces, you are showing an interest in Geography. Similarly, if you are fascinated by Maoria tribes or Eskimos because their lives are so different, this is an aspect of Geography. If you've watched TV programmes about any of these, you've actually been studying Geography!
