There are many definitions of social cohesion. It is a very broad concept. Social cohesion is a measure of how successful a group is at co-existing. It is defined as the interactions between each unit of that social group and their efficiency at maintaining the norms, rules, and beliefs of that particular group. S ocial cohesion can also be defined as a measure of an individual’s bonding to a particular social entity. The entity can be anything from a frat house to a corporate company.
Social cohesion is usually composed of three main components:
Social inclusion: It is the way of improving the terms of individuals who decide to take part in the entity. For e.g. Every Employee of a company getting an equal chance at promotion.
Social capital: The resources a social entity has for which the unit decides to cooperate is known as social capital. It is the reward for which the units work to get at common ends.
Social mobility: The ability of units of the entity to move up and down a group through status, wealth and other factors is known as mobility.
