Is Syria just another victim of US-Russia cold war?

It is difficult to determine what caused Syria to be involved in their own civil war. The U.S. has been involved in Syria prior to their war. All countries want access to the oil fields since the Middle East has so many of them. Most likely the U.S.-Russia cold war played a part in the Syrian strife.

However, I believe there are other factors involved in the problem in Syria starting with their leader. Poor decisions have been made in regard to the Syrian government towards their citizens. Things just increased as a result and there seems to be no stopping to the problem. Wars are caused by many factors so the cold war shouldn’t take all of the blame.

Syria is not a cold war era conflict. It is broader than that, with different variables involved and loyalties shifting around. The only settlement that will stick must be acceptable to the people who live there. Outside powers cannot force peace as long as the parties have ground to gain.

Neither supporter has the clout to control its clients on the ground. The latest ceasefire failed not only because the US bombed a contingent of Syrian troops in error, and not just because an aid convoy was destroyed, but because the sponsors of the deal (the US and Russia) were unable to control what happened next.
