The dictionary defines stat padding as “an action that improves a player’s statistics despite being of little benefit to his or her team or its chance of winning”. Some sports columnists and commentators do believe Russell Westbrook stat padded while playing in order to win the NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the end of the 2016-2017 season.

Many others believe he did not. This will likely remain an unresolved question because while it is somewhat easier to figure the statistics for rebounds, points, steals, and blocked shots it is much harder to prove a player is stat padding for assists.
