I will never advise that you do this because the result can be fatal and you definitely won't be around to tell the story. The thing is you are not very sure of the number of floors the elevator would cover before hitting the ground.

If the elevator only covers few floors, you may decide to jump, but that doesn't mean you won't get hurt. But if the elevator covers so many floors, jumping in a falling elevator can be fatal. In whichever case, people are always advised not to make such an attempt if they are stuck inside a falling elevator.

If you find yourself in a situation like this, you can try other things like lying down on your back. I won't suggest that you sit because the result will be very bad for your back. However, sitting is better than standing because the muscle and fat in your buttocks will help you absorb and reduce the forces of the impact.

No, you should not jump. Many people have fears of being on elevators because they fear they will get stuck or that the elevator will fall to the ground. When an elevator is falling to the ground uncontrollably, it can cause injury, even life threatening ones. If the elevator is not too far from the bottom, then it will not be as dangerous.

However, if it is way up, it could be fatal. It is not good to jump before the elevator goes to the ground because the speed at which the body goes down will not be the same speed as the elevator. This could be more dangerous than just letting the impact occur.

There are different times when people may be unsure of the things that they should do. For instance, those who are on falling elevators or lifts may not know the proper steps to do. It would depend on the height from where the elevator is falling from but it is said that you are not recommended to jump because this means that you are going to be jumping from a greater height and you will hit harder on the ground once the elevator falls. What you can do is lie down on your back. Sitting is still going to be bad for your back but your chances of making it will be better as compared to just standing.

Hopefully, you will not ever have to experience being in an elevator that is falling uncontrollably to the ground. If the elevator is only on a few floors from the bottom, then this experience is not life-threatening, but if the elevator is located many floors up, the damage to the human bodies inside the elevator when it comes crashing down to the ground could cause fatal injuries.

Many people believe that jumping up in the air before right before the elevator hits the ground is the best method. The logic and reasoning behind this idea is that the person will be up in the air during the impact. However, when the body comes down, it will be coming down to the elevator floor at the same speed as the elevator was. So, this would not help.
