Wholesaling is the sale of goods or merchandise to retailers who would include industrial, commercial, institutional, and other business users; or to other wholesalers and related services. It is the sale of goods to anyone other than a standard consumer. It is a distributor who buys in bulk and sells to resellers, rather than to consumers.

Distributors and wholesalers often work together as channel partners. A break in bulk point is a place where goods are transferred from one mode of transfer to another. Breakbulk cargo is transported in bags, boxes, crates, drums, or barrels. The most common way for the load to be delivered is to the dock before the arrival of the ship and for the shipment to be stored in warehouses.
