The Congo River begins in the mountains in Africa and flows through the Congo Rainforest plus various lakes and other rivers. It travels over waterfalls until it flows into the Southern Atlantic Ocean. This river runs over a million miles. Before, the Congo River was called the Zaire River because of the previously named country.

The Congo River and the Nile River are the largest rivers in Africa. The Congo River is a deep river and moves over the equator. Since this river travels through the Democratic Republic of the Congo and about 9 other countries, this river is used a lot for trade. Also, the river powers electricity by a few dozen hydropower plants built near the river.
