Electronic Questions and Answers (Q&A)

Let's see how far my knowledge stretches

NPN and PNP are transistors. Specifically, they are both bipolar junction transistors. They can be classified as 3-terminal electronic semiconductor devices. If someone wants to switch transistors or amplify them, they will use either an NPN or PNP.

If you wish to a transistor that had lower electron mobility, then you should use PNP because NPN had more electron mobility. That is why people prefer NPN transistors to PNP. Manufacturers can produce NPN with more ease than PNP because it is created from silicon. The base is the main difference between the NPN and PNP.

For the bottom of the NPN, you would see a P-dope semiconductor. The support for the PNP is called the N-dope semiconductor. Now that you know the difference, you can select the one that works best for you.

An electronic spread sheet is simply a program that represents the electronic version of paper worksheet. It is created to help people with need to store accounting and analytic information in a tabular form. Spreadsheet stores data in cells.

The most common spreadsheet program is Microsoft Excel However, databases involve more technical processing. Databases store data values in tables and each table has a name. The most commonly used database program includes: Microsoft Access, MYSQL, SQL and Oracle. Database programs can also store large amount of raw data compared to spreadsheet.

IDE stands for Integrated Drive Electronics; it is a type of interface that help connects storage devices such as hard drives in a computer. It is often referred to as Parallel ATA. It requires all the parallel signals to arrive at once. Compared to SATA, it transfers data at a slow speed of about of 133MB/s. From the drive connector, you tell that there is a single cable for data and power.

SATA stands for Serial Advanced Technology Attachment; it is a bus interface that connects bus adapters to storage devices such as hard drives. It is a newer interface. SATA works with a serial connection. The rate of data transfer of data is as high as 6GB/s, which a lot faster than IDE. The SATA has data and power cable on different sides of the drive connector.

An inductor also called a coil reactor, is a passive two-terminal electrical component which withstands changes in electric current passing through it. It has a conductor such as a wire, usually wound into the coil. Energy is cached in a magnetic field in the coil as long as current flows.

Inductors are used with capacitors in wireless communications applications. An inductor attached in series or parallel with a capacitor provides discrimination against unwanted signals. Large inductors are used in power computers. Inductors stockpile energy in a magnetic field when electric current flows through it.

A lot of people still like playing with handheld game consoles and they may be choosing between the Nintendo DS and the DS Lite. They may seem similar in the beginning but in terms of appearance, you will notice that the DS Lite is a bit smaller and sleeker. This will make it nicer to bring around since it will not take up too much space and it will not have a lot of weight.

The stylus of the DS Lite is also known to be bigger. When it comes to battery life, the DS Lite can also hold a battery charge for a longer period of time which also means more playing time for you. Based on these details, you can guess that the DS Lite is the upgraded version of the original Nintendo DS.

Canon FS20 and FS200 are electronic devices used for recording images and audio into a storage device. FS20 and FS200 are good for specific functions. Although, when you look at the two from a distant place they might look the same but they actually have some differences. It should be noted that FS20 is a newer camcorder product than FS200, FS200 can be considered an older version to FS20.

Their differences start from the screen. FS20 has a brighter and better screen resolution when compared with FS200. Another difference is that, FS200 does not have internal storage like other new camcorders like FS20 which has a storage capacity of 32GB. If we consider their zoom lens, FS20 has a better zoom lens when compared with FS200, and with this, it can record a distant image and produce a brighter image than FS200. However, one advantage FS200 has over FS20 is that, it costs slightly less than FS20.

DVR means Digital Video Recorder and it is an electronic device used for recording digital videos into a storage device. It is used to record programs when connected to a television via a coax cable. While NVR means Network Video Recorder. NVR records simply by using IP cameras, the cameras work when connected to a network cable. The IP cameras are connected to the NVR by using an alternative network provider or the network is directly connected to the NVR.

The difference between the two electronic recorders is that, while DVR uses the simple method of connection just like every other electronic recorder, NVR uses a set of IP cameras which are connected by using network. The problem with NVR is that, a user who is not technologically inclined might encounter problems while connecting and this might be a little bit frustrating, unlike DVR which has cameras s that have been fully set.
