Series 1: Place Value and Rounding
Overview:
This first series focuses on the importance of place value and value, as well as the difference between the two. In addition, we will cover the topic of rounding. This is students' first encounter with rounding to the nearest 10s and 100s place and it can be a bit challenging for some. Our lessons offer multiple strategies including number lines and place value, to ensure that your student finds the one that fits his/her needs.
Lessons:
- Lesson 1: Place Value vs. Value
- Lesson 2: Rounding to the Nearest Ten and Hundred
- Lesson 3: Determining Unknown Original Numbers
Series Resources:
Series 2: Addition Strategies
Overview:
In Grade 3, students are required to fluently add and subtract within 1,000 using strategies and algorithms based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction. The lessons in this section will provide multiple strategies for students to use while building their addition fluency.
Lessons:
- Lesson 1: Properties of Addition
- Commutative, Associative, Distributive, Identity
- Lesson 2: Estimating a Sum
- Lesson 3: Using Addition Models
- Lesson 4: Addition using the Break Apart Method
