Overview:
\r\n\r\nBefore diving into the rigorous 5th Grade content, it's a good idea to review the basics of Problem Solving. The next 2 lessons, which focus on Keywords and the steps to solving word problems, will be extremely helpful throughout the entire year.
\r\n\r\nStudents need to have a strong understanding of which keyword is associated with which operation. That lesson is followed by a detailed explanation of the CUBES Method, a strategy that helps students focus on the important aspects of each world problem. This Method is used throughout all of the United 4 Math grade-level series and is an excellent way for students to get comfortable working on word problems.

\r\n\r\nOverview:
Until this point, students have been gradually learning how to Multiply Multi-Digit Numbers using partial products, area/array models, and place value strategies. When they enter 5th grade, students should have a thorough understanding of the multiplication process and are ready to learn the Standard Algorithm to fluently multiply multi-digit numbers.
This series will explain the steps of the standard algorithm and how to find an unknown factor in a multiplication equation.

Overview:
\r\n\r\nSeries 2 focuses on the Order of Operations, which is the correct Sequence to solve Multi-Step/Multi-Operational Problems. This will include how to use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions and how to know which operation to solve first. If problems are solved out of sequence, students will not find the correct answers. Our lesson provides several examples of this skill so you can walk away with a great understanding.
\r\n\r\nOnce students are comfortable using the Order of Operations, they will apply their new sequencing knowledge when Evaluating Errors in problems that have already been completed, and when learning to Write and Interpret Expressions from word problems.
