Origin: Axillary Border of Scapula
Insertion: Greater Tubercle
Action: External Rotation, Horizontal Abduction
Notes: Kissing Cousn to Infraspinatus

Subscapularis (Shoulder Joint-Rotator Cuff)
Origin:Subscapular Fossa of Scapula
Insertion:Lesser Tubercle
Action: Internal Rotation
Notes: Only rotator cuff muscle to insert on lesser tubercle

Identify

Teres Major (Shoulder Joint)
Origin: Axillary Borderof the Scapula Nearthe inferior angle.
Insertion: Crest (below lesser tubercle)
Action: Extension, internal rotation, adduction.
Notes: Interior to Teres Minor, wraps around to anterior portion of humerus.

CoracoBrachialis (Shoulder Joint)
Origin: Coracoid Process of Scapula
Insertion: Medial Surface of Humerus
Action: Stabilizes shoulder joint.  Will ASSIST with shoulder flexion and adduction.
Notes: SYNERGEST


Pectoralis Major Clavicular (Shoulder Joint)
Origin: Medial 1/3 of clavicle
Insertion: Lateral Lip of Bicipital Groove
Action: Shoulder flexion to 90 degrees

Pectoralis Major Sternal (Shoulder Joint)
Origin: Sternum & Costa Cartilage of first 6 ribs
Insertion: Lateral Lip of Bicipital Groove
Action: Shoulder extension from 90 to 0 degrees

Latissimus Dorsi (Shoulder Joint)
Origin: Spinous Process of T7-L5, Posterior Sacrum & Iliac Crest, Lower 3 ribs, Inferior angle of the Scapula
Insertion: Medial Lip of Bicipital Groove
Action: Shoulder extension from 90 to 0 degrees
Notes: Inserts in groove like the pecs


Upper Trapezius (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin: Occipital Bone and Nuchal Ligament (off Spinous Process of Spine)
Insertion: Lateral 1/3 of Posterior Clavicle and Acromion Process
Action: Scapular Elevation, Upward Rotation, ASSISTS with retraction
Notes:


Middle Trapezius (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin: Spinous Processes of C7-T3-5
Insertion: Superior Portion of Scapular Spine
Action: Retraction
Notes:

Identify

Lower Trapezius (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin: Spinous Processes of T6-T12
Insertion: Baseof Spine of Scapula
Action: Depression, Upward Rotation
Notes: In upward rotation, spine of scapula angles downward and shortens lower trap.


Levator Scapulae (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin: Transverse Processes of C1-C4
Insertion: Vertebral border of Scapula between the Superior angle and Spine
Action:  Elevation, Downward Rotation
Notes: Downward rotation moves Superior Angle of Scapula upwards, shortening scapulae muscle

Rhomboids (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin: Spinous Processes of C1-T5
Insertion: Vertebral Scapular Border
Action: Depression, Upward Rotation
Notes: In upward rotation, spine of scapula angles downward and shortens lower trap.


Serratus Anterior (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin:  Lateral Surface of Upper 8 ribs.
Insertion: Vertebral Border of Scapula.
Action: Protraction, Upward rotation (prevents winging of Scapula)
Notes: Between Scapula and rib cage


Pectoralis Minor (Shoulder Girdle)
Origin:  Anterior Surface of Ribs 3,4,5
Insertion: Coracoid Process
Action: Protraction, Depression, Downward rotation.
Notes:


Brachialis- "WORK HORSE" (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Distal Half of Anterior Humerus
Insertion: Ulnar Tuberocity
Action: Elbow Flexion
Notes:


Biceps Brachii (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin (Long Head): Supraglenoid Tubercle od Scapula.
Origin(Short Head): Coracoid Process of Scapula
Insertion (both): Radial Tuberocity of Humerus (after 2 heads merge into "body")
Action: Elbow Flexion, Supination, (Assiss in Shoulder Flexion)
Notes: Inserts on Radius=sup/pronation Rule.


Triceps Brachii (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin(Long Head): Infraglenoid Tubule of Scapula
Origin(Short Head): Just inferior to Greater Tubercle of Humerus
Origin(Medial): Posterior surface of Humerus
Insertion: Alecranon Process of Ulna (after merging into "head")
Action: Elbow Extension
 


Aconeus(Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Lateral Epicondyle of Humerus
Insertion: Lateral Inferior Portion of Alecronon Process
Action: Stabilizer
Notes: Prevents Annular Ligament from being pinched inthe Alecranon Fossa (pulls it away)


Pronator Teres (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Medial Epicondyle Of Humerus, Coronoid Process of Ulna.
Insertion: Lateral Aspect of Radius
Action: Pronation
Notes: Insert on Radius=sup/pronation rule


Pronator Quadratus (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Anterior surface of distal quarter of ulna
Insertion: Anterior surface of the distal quarter of the radius
Action: Pronation
Notes: Insert on Radius=sup/pronation rule


Supinator (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Lateral Epicondyle Of Humerus and adjacent Ulna
Insertion: Anterior surface of Proximal Radius
Action: Supination
Notes: Curves from posterior origin to anterior insertion. Insert on Radius=sup/pronation rule


Brachioradialis (Elbow/Forearm)
Origin: Lateral Supracondylar ridge of Humerus
Insertion: Styloid Process of Radius
Action: Elbow Flexion
Notes: EXCEPTION to the Insert on Radius =sup/pronation rule


Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (Wrist)
Origin: Medial Epicondyle of Humerus.
Insertion: Base of 5th Metacarpal & Pisiform (Anterior)
Action: Flexion, Ulnar Deviation
Note: Flexor=Medial Rule, Ulnaris=Ulnar Deviation Rule


Flexor Carpi Radialis (Wrist)
Origin: Medial Epicondyle of Humerus.
Insertion: Base of 2/3rd Metacarpal
Action: Flexion, Radial Deviation
Note: Flexor=Medial Rule, Radialis=Radial Deviation Rule


Palmaris Longus (Wrist)
Origin: Medial Epicondyle
Insertion: Palmar Fascia (connective tissue)
Action: ASSISTS with wrist Flexion
Note: Note everyone has one, Medial=Flexion rule


Extensor Carpi Radialis Longus (Wrist)
Origin: Lateral Supracondylar ridge of Humeus
Insertion: Base of 2nd Metacarpal (Posterior)Action: Wrist Extension, Radial Deviation
Note: Extensor=Lateral Rule, Radialis=Radial Deviation Rule


Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (Wrist)
Origin: Laterl Epicondyle of Humerus.
Insertion: Base of 3rd Metacarpal (Posterior)
Action: Wrist Extension.  ASSISTS radial deviation.
Note: Extensor=Lateral Rule, Radialis=Radial Deviation Rule


Extensor Carpi Ulnaris (Wrist)
Origin: Lateral Epicondyle of Humerus
Insertion: Base of 5th Metacarpal (Posterior)
Action: Wrist extension, Ulnar Deviation
Note: Extensor=Lateral Rule, Ulnaris=Ulnar Deviation Rule
