Kristen completed Neurodevelopmental Technique Training in 2006 as well as was awarded American Physical Therapy Association Geriatric Certified Specialist in 2009.  Kristen has treated as a physical therapist in several areas of care including inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing facility, home care, and outpatient therapy expanding her therapy repertoire across the entire continuum. In addition to treating in the clinic, she serves as an adjunct faculty member at Neumann University as well as lectures within the community and APTA.  Currently, Kristen is the co-owner of Action Potential in Glen Mills PA, a one-to-one outpatient clinic that specializes in treating neurological, geriatric, and amputee populations.Description:This course will review the history and principles of Neurodevelopmental Technique (NDT) and explain how it applies to current treatment of patients with hemiplegia.  A discussion of manual cues will precede a review of movement kinematics of the spine, pelvis, and scapula.  Case studies will reinforce common movement dysfunctions of patients with hemiplegia.Objectives:After completing this course you will have a better understanding of the following:1. Dysfunctional movement patterns present in hemiplegia Neurofacilitation of Transfers: Exploring pivot transfers and sit to/from stand using manual facilitation techniques (NDT 2)Course Description: 3 Hours (.3 CEUs)This course will introduce the use of manual facilitation for low pivot and sit to/from stand transfers. The rationale for each type of transfer is explained along with pictures and videos of the necessary manual cues to perform. Course Objectives:After completing this course you will have a better understanding of the following:1. Facilitation of the following motions: Lumbar extension, lumbar flexion, thoracic extension, lateral lumbar flexion, hip extension, and tibial alignment2. The rationale and benefits of the low pivot and sit to/from stand transfers for the patient with hemiplegia3. How to progress the low pivot and sit to/from stand transfer to increase the challenge4. Problem solving for challenges during transfers5. Proper documentation of transfers with facilitation
