What is California sexual harassment training for supervisors?
California supervisor sexual harassment training is a compliance training designed for supervisors. It is based on the sexual harassment training requirements in the state of California, particularly the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and California Assembly Bill 1825 (AB 1825). This training is aimed at preventing discrimination, sexual harassment, and retaliation in the workplace and on the part of supervisors.
What are the current requirements for California sexual harassment training (supervisors)?
Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 make sexual harassment illegal in the workplace. Also, AB 1825 makes certain employer action items and training mandatory. Effective January 1, 2018, SB 396 expanded the requirements for supervisor sexual harassment training to include gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. The new law also requires that employers display in their office premises a poster of the Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) regarding transgender rights.
Who needs to take supervisor sexual harassment training in California?
Every employee in a supervisory role is required to undergo at least two hours of sexual harassment training and retraining every two years. Newly recruited supervisors are supposed to take the training within six months of their assuming position. Supervisors may be part-time, full-time, temporary, or contractors.
