# Longitude Quizzes & Trivia

Longitude is a geographic coordinate used to specify the east-west position of a point on the earth’s surface. Longitude is an angular measurement and is therefore expressed in degrees denoted by λ. Points having the same longitude lie in imaginary line running from North Pole to South Pole. The reference longitude from which the angular measurements of other longitudes are measured is the one that passes through the Royal Observatory in England. It is referred to as the Prime Meridian and designated zero degrees.

Did you know that the measurement of longitude is very important for ocean navigation and cartography? Did you know that finding the method to determine longitudes took centuries? What was the name of the first European to proffer a solution to the measurement of longitudes? If you are good in geography, you can try these challenging quizzes about longitudes.
