Active And Passive Voice Quizzes & Trivia

It is usually better to use active voice in a formal paper than passive voice. There are three parts of a sentence that uses active voice: the agent, which is the subject of the sentence, the verb, which is the action word in the sentence, and the recipient, which is the object of the sentence. For example, in the sentence "The mouse frightened the elephant," the mouse is the agent, frightened is the verb, and the elephant would be the recipient. However, in passive voice, the key parts of the sentence are reversed. An example of a passive sentence would be "The elephant was frightened by the mouse. " This is a weak sentence format for a formal paper.
