Nursing: Know Your Risks (Physician Version)

Nurses are dedicated to providing the highest level of care to their patients. However, despite their commitment, errors may still occur. Breakdowns in communication, failure to escalate concerns, and failure to rescue patients are all areas where nurses may be vulnerable to risk. Learn about malpractice vulnerabilities in nursing and discuss strategies to mitigate risk and improve patient safety.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:

• Discuss malpractice risks specific to nursing
• Review nursing malpractice data relative to communication, escalation of concern and failure to rescue
• Describe strategies to mitigate risk including structured communication and team training
