Grade 1 Identifying Key Signatures

The purpose of a key signature is to reduce the number of accidentals (sharps and flats) written in every piece of music. So, instead of writing, say, all the F in the music as F#, a sharp is placed on the F-line beside the clef to tell you that you must play all the F as F#. This also tells you that the key of the passage is in G major.  This quiz helps students to understand the link between the different keys and their key signatures. It is important to know key signatures well not just that you can do well in your theory (many chapters require good knowledge of key signatures), but also to know your pieces well and play them correctly.
