Forge the retainer. You can't be caught by the partners being so sloppy; your reputation is at stake.
Report your mistake to your supervising partner and schedule a meeting with the client. You may face reprimand, even demotion or loss of your job for this - but it is your fault. You don't want to risk losing your practising certificate.
Call the witness anyway. There is no such thing as impartiality in conflict.
