Genome Test

As a contributor to The Art Genome Project, you'll learn how to “genome,” or to evaluate artists and artworks and apply a variety of characteristics to them to identify them for our users.

INSTRUCTIONS:
As part of your application to The Art Genome Project, we'll ask you to go through a series of exercises that closely resemble the thought process that goes into genoming. At the end you'll "genome" some works and artists. Please fill out the entire exercise to the best of your ability. We are interested in your ability to think critically, make important distinctions, identify relevant characteristics of artworks, exhibit art historical knowledge and attention to detail. The test is only one of many factors we consider in our hiring process.
  • Outside research is allowed on the final genoming portion of the test.
  • This test in is 4 parts
  • This is a timed test. You will have 75 minutes for completion. We suggest you spend 10 minutes on Part 1, 5-10 minutes on Part 2, 5-10 minutes on Part 3, and 45 minutes for Part III (genoming).
  • You can navigate back to other questions at any point during the test.
  • You can only take this test once.
  • At the end, you will have some time to tell us what you thought of the test.
  • And just before you submit, you'll be able to view all your answers and change anything you're not satisfied with. But just a word to the wise: don't overthink it. Good art historians have good instincts; trust them.

Tip: At any point in the test, you can see all genes on Artsy by going to our Browse page.

The timer will start after you type in your name below and click "Start".
