Elections are held in many situations all over the world. Clubs, some religious organizations, and schools might choose leaders through voting. Some rules or laws are chosen by voting. In many governments, leaders are chosen by voting, but did you know that there are different systems for choosing leaders? In the American system, each Senate or House seat is elected individually.

In England, citizens vote for the political party of their choice, and the parties are awarded seats based on the proportion of votes won. Many people in the US take voting rights for granted, but did you know that African Americans weren’t given the right to vote until 1870, and women not until 1920?
