Pediatrics is the branch of medicine that deals with the care of infants, children and adolescents up to the age of 18, and sometimes even 21 in some states. A medical practioner that practices in this area is called a pediatrician. Pediatrics came about when doctors realized that children and young adults needed much different care then adult men and women, and that meant they needed their own care facility to better serve the public.

The pediatrician's office is designed for younger children so that when they go to the doctor, they don't feel like they are at a hospital but rather a daycare of sorts.
