Top Mitosis Flashcards

Mitosis is a way that a cell reproduces. During mitosis the cell splits into two parts, each becoming an individual cell. Did you know that the nucleus usually divides first? This stage is called karyokinesis. The next stage, cytokinesis, is when the cell membrane, cytoplasm, and organelles separate into two parts.

Sometimes mitosis is separated into 5 stages. At the end of this cycle, the “mother cell” has formed two “daughter cells” which are genetically identical to the mother and each other. This process is how the number of cells in an organism increases, allowing for growth and development. Did you know that mitosis is also responsible for cell replacement and regeneration, such as the production of new blood cells or the healing of broken bones? Our flashcards can teach you this and more, so get started learning now!
