What are the three types of connective tissue?
Loose, dense, and specialized
What are the two types of loose tissue, a subtype of connective tissue?
1.) areorlar: forms the bed of the skin & mucos membranes 2.) adipose: similar to above but has a high concentration of fat.
What is dense tisssue a subtype of connective tissue?
There are four types of dense connective tissue: -tendons -ligaments -fascia -reticular
Describe what a tendon is.
Tendons are a type of dense connective tissue. -tough nonelastic cords -can always be associated with muscle
Describe what a ligament is.
A ligament is -an elastic fiber -join bone to bone, bone to cartilage, and cartilage to cartilage
Describe what fascia is
Is a very thin type of DCT-usually found in the form of membranous sheets, covers broad areas
Describe what reticular tissue is
-type of DCT -extends in all directions to join neighboring cells -forms supporting network for lymph nodes and liver (hammock)
What is connective tissue
Tissues which connect or bind structures together, support the body and aid in bodily maintenance
What are the two types of specialized tissue?
Bone and cartilage
What are the 3 types of cartilage a part of SCT?
-hyaline -elastic -fibrocartilage
What is hyaline cartilage?
-type of SCT -covers the articular surfaces of joints -forms the framework for lower respiratory tracts (lower part of lung)
What is elastic cartilage?
-type of SCT -found in ear & extrnl. auditory meatus -auditory tube -epiglottis -some small cartilages of larynx
What is fibrocartilage?
-type of SCT -found in some joints of body -intervertebral discs of vertebral column
What is bone?
-a type of SCT -dense & spongy -206 bones in human skeleton (axial & appendicluar)
