Centipedes are anthropods. They are elongated creatures with one pair of legs per body segment. They are known for being highly venomous. They have many legs, ranging from 30 to 354. They always have an odd pair of legs; therefore, no centipede has precisely one hundred legs. A prime trait uniting this group is a pair of venom claws. Their size ranges from a few millimeters to 30 centimeters.

Their coloring is a combined shade of brown and red. Centipedes are found in many places from tropical rainforests to deserts. They require a moist habitat because they lack the waxy cuticle of insects, which causes them to lose water rapidly.

Centipedes are arthropods belonging to the class Chilopoda of the subphylum Myriapoda, an arthropod group which also includes Millipedes and other multi-legged creatures.
