The reason why mud flies away when you hit the carpet with a stick is because of inertia. The term inertia describes the property of matter in which an object strives to resist a change in its velocity. The result you get when you hit the carpet with a stick also explains Newton's first law of motion.

The law states that an object will continue to be in a state of uniform motion or at rest unless it is acted upon by an external force. The carpet is already at rest and will continue to be in that position unless an external force acts upon it. In this case, the stick is the external force.

As it beats the carpet, it causes the carpet to vibrate. And since it is possible there could be dust on the carpet, the vibration of the carpet also causes the dust to fly. Invariably, the dust is trying to maintain its inertia, which is why it flies once the carpet is beaten.

Inertia is the correct answer to this question. Inertia occurs when there is a resistance to change in the physical object. This change can include the speed of the object or the direction in which the motion flows.

Relating this concept to the question, if the stick is beaten into the carpet, then the carpet will, in turn, move. However, any particles of dust that are there will try to resist the movement. They wish to stay in a state of rest.

Inertia itself is caused by trying to resist change, and it is apart of the subject of physics.

When beating the carpet with a stick, mud flies away because of inertia. The rug is at rest, and it will stay at rest because of the inertia, which is why when a carpet is thrashed with a stick, dust comes out of it.

When the rug is at rest, and the dust also tends to stay at rest; however, when the carpet is beaten, it gains velocity, but dust remains at rest, so the dust particles fly off the carpet. When the stain is fresh, you should not mess with it right away, but wait until it has dried. Be careful while cleaning, as one false move and you could be staring at the stain on the carpet indefinitely.

The main reason why this happens is because of inertia. The carpet may get beaten with a stick in order to hit the fly. The stick will exert enough force on the carpet so that proper motion will be set in place. There are dust particles that may be on the carpet especially if it has not been cleaned for a while that may also affect how fast or how slow the stick will move.

The principle of inertia is that people will be able to retain the motion. The carpet will seem to be at rest so the tendency of the fly is to go away. The law of inertia states that to overcome inertia, the fly should move towards a certain direction to go away from the movement of the stick.
