Japan is one country but has several islands. We usually think of it as its two main islands. It is an Asian country but strictly speaking, it is not IN Asia, but beside it. Asia is its nearest continent, but it is not that far from Australia, either. In nature, Japan is Asian, although with extremely distinctive cultural characteristics that, although much affected by the western world, remain clear and undiminished today, which is happy news.

Japan's nearest neighbor is China apart from Korea. Not surprisingly, Japan's history is more bound up with these countries than with any others. Despite its nearness to Australia, there has been a little close positive or negative relationship. Coexistence alongside the Pacific Ocean has worked well.
