The hippogritus is a subgenus of the zebra. There are three main species of zebra that we know today, and two of them belong to this subgenus - the plains and the mountain zebras. The other species of zebra - the Grevy’s zebra - is the only one in the other subgenus, named the dolichohippus.
These animals are quite pretty, with black and white striped bodies. There’s a single stripe running down the back from the center of the back to the end of the tail. No two zebras have the same stripe pattern, so they make a good way of telling zebras apart. No one is quite sure, however, if these animals are black with white stripes or white with black stripes.
