Selective attention is the kind of attention we use when we search for relevant stimuli, we use overt attention to do this, meaning searching our visual field with our eyes. when new relevant stimuli appear we switch to focus on that stimule instead. exogenous attention used, meaning automatic or reflective.focused attention involves for us relevant stimuli which we focus on. it is endogenous, meaning voluntary keeping focus on specific stimuli. compare with executive attention which we use to control and inhibit responding automatic or reflective.selective attention, scanningthe process of selecting specific information from among multiple sensory stimulisupervisory, conflict resolution, focused attention the mechanism for monitoring and resolving conflict among thoughts, feelings, and responses; an attentional system concerned with such tasks as working memory, planning, switching, and inhibitory control
