2 to 4 months -surgery-liver-the incubation period is 2 to 4 months, and infection generally develops within the first 2 weeks in most patients. after ingestion, the capsule of the amebic cyst is dissolved in the small bowel with each cyst usually releasing four active trophozoites, which are carried down the small intestine to settle in areas of greatest stasis, particularly the caecum and the hepatic and splenic flexures. the trophozoites produce powerful proteolytic enzymes and hyaluronidases capable of lysing intestinal epithelium, enabling them to burrow into the mucosa toward the lamina propria. the patient has no symptoms until tissue invasion occurs, marking the onset of clinical amoebiasis.
