The performance was hated because of his idea of using a hologram to pay tribute to the late musical sensation; Prince.

Though he ended up not using a hologram, he still didn't get many people to love it, especially Prince fans.

Timberlake paid tribute to Prince with a video of the late musician, signing his smash hit song "I would die 4 U".

Fans rushed to social media to express their dislike, because they remember how he mocked Prince's short frame at the golden globe awards back in 2007. Timberlake also got lambasted because he dissed Prince with the lyrics of his song "sexy back".
