Lithium-learning objective: describe monitoring of li+ plasma levels.answer: dlithium is a drug which requires regular serum monitoring because of its narrow therapeuticindex with serious toxic potential at high levels, and because individual variation in dosagerequirements. guidelines have varied over the years, but currently recommendations indicatethat plasma levels should be measured weekly when therapy is started and until stabilization isachieved, then weekly for one month and at monthly intervals thereafter. plasma levels shouldbe maintained between 0.6-1.2 ng/l.a, b, c, e) these drugs do not need plasma level monitoring.
