This is an interesting concept, and it needs to be understood that it relates to the aperture. It’s called the F-number. The F-number is basically the focal length of the lens. This is how far the camera can “see”, or how clear something in the distance will be. There’s really no way to properly put a number to this idea.
So, it is usually qualified as a higher number with less light. So, the higher the F-number (such as f/8), the less light that gets into the camera, perfect for places with lots of light. You want less light in the camera when you’re taking a picture outside, say, on a really, really sunny day. You want more light in low-light areas, because that gives it more of a chance to get light where it’s needed.
