Fruit snacks are gummy candies that really don’t have a lot of nutritional value even though the name of it implies that it would be healthy for you due to it being made of fruit. Each piece of candy represents a fruit and fruit flavor.

The piece of candy may even resemble the fruit. In the 1970s, a candy maker named Shalhoub invented the first fruit snacks. It was a fruit roll-up. He called it the Joray Fruit Rolls. The main reason for the invention of the first fruit snacks was for those people who want to go hiking and need to take a snack with them.

Then a company took over and created the first fruit snack by a company. The company was General Mills and they created their first fruit snack in 1983.

Fruit snacks are a relatively new thing. The first fruit snack ever to be made was made in the 1970s by a man named Louis Shalhoub. Fruit snacks were used often by backpackers as a lightweight high energy food. Shalhoub was a confectioner. Over the years fruit snacks evolved into something seen as a healthy alternative to children’s sugary snacks.

In recent years it has come to light that fruit snacks are actually not any healthier than any other sugary gummi candies. The idea behind fruit snacks morphed and became an idea that they were a healthy gummi snack alternative when they were originally made by a confectioner as a quick light high energy food for backpackers.
