Garfield is truly an American cat. He loves lasagna - a tasty Italian food that many Americans have adopted as their own food - and hamburgers. The hamburger is an almost entirely American invention. He loves doughnuts and cake, too. He’s got a real sweet tooth, so he fits in just fine in America. In American literature, he is one of the few cats that eats human food, gets away with it, and lives to tell the tale.
Even though he’s a cat, it is well acknowledged and known that he is somewhat overweight. Not obese, just overweight. He eats portions that better suit a human than a cat. However, he’s also very, very, very aware of this fact. He just acknowledges it and then keeps on eating. He’s really some kind of American cat.
