The symptoms of food poisoning usually begin within one to two days after eating contaminated food, although they may start at any point between a few hours and several weeks later. The main symptoms include: feeling sick (nausea) vomiting. Food poisoning, also called foodborne illness, is illness caused by eating contaminated food.

Contamination can also occur at home if food is incorrectly handled or cooked. Food poisoning symptoms, which can start within hours of eating contaminated food, often include nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. “Food poisoning” is a broad term that can actually cover a whole lot of different infections. Your exact symptoms and their severity will vary.
