There are many possible causes of food poisoning: bacteria, viruses, pesticides, natural toxins, molds, parasites, and more. There are so many types of food poisoning that there are many possible symptoms. Food poisoning is especially dangerous for infants, young children, elderly people, and those with chronic health conditions or weak immune systems. Most types of food poisoning cause gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms.

These include nausea/upset stomach, stomach cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea. One of the dangers of food poisoning is dehydration. Vomiting and diarrhea cause the body to lose a lot of fluid. Some bacteria cause fewer cases of food poisoning but can make you very sick. They can even cause death.
