Inventory between purchasing and production is called the raw materials inventory. This is a pretty straightforward answer. When you purchase something for a production line, it’s usually something like iron, steel, fabric, etc. Nails, screws, and other hardware can also be considered part of this. These are the pieces that will be used to make something. Let’s say you’re going to make a skirt. You’ll need a pattern, fabric, thread, and a few other things.

You may need elastic, buttons, snaps, or a zipper for the skirt depending on the waistline. If you’re making a circle skirt, you may need something to weigh it down so you don’t flash people. These are all the things you’ll use later, the raw materials.
