The best position for someone with autonomic dysreflexia would be the high fowler’s position. This is basically when the head is higher than the body with a little bit of math behind it. The upper body of the patient is typically between 60 and 90 degrees higher than the lower half of the body.

It basically puts the patient in a position similar to one they would take if they were sitting down for dinner. Legs can be bent or straight according to the patient’s preference.

However, this is the best position to help blood flow properly. Humans are designed to be upright so that the heart can power everything. It can get blood to come up very well, and it lets gravity do the work to get blood back down.
