Why does the data communication industry use the layered OSI reference model?

A lot of people in the data communication industry use the layered OSI reference model because it “divides the network communication process into smaller and simpler components, thus aiding component development, design, and troubleshooting,” or answer 1 (which should be answer A to fit with the rest of the answers’ labels). Think about it.

If the network was this huge, bulky thing, troubleshooting would take forever. With smaller components, you can find the one that’s having problems and work on that one without having to do a lot of trial and error to find the problem area.

It’s the same reason you do as much as you can to figure out what’s going wrong when you’ve lost something; you are trying to find where you lost it.
