The central nervous system is made up of the brain and the spinal cord. This nervous system controls the carrying of neurological messages to your muscles including your arms, legs, facial expressions and even your speech. Alcohol is a depressant of the central nervous system meaning that is slows down the activity that occurs. With only a small amount of alcohol in your system, it can enhance your abilities and is considered a pick-me-up, but the opposite occurs as more alcohol enters the brain.

The effects that alcohol has on the brain are as follows:
• Unclear memory
• Hard of hearing
• Slowed reaction time
• Altered or slurred speech
• Impaired vision
• Weakened muscles
