Mouthwashes with alcohol in them have been proven to kill more germs and bacteria while improving your oral hygiene and health. Some mouthwashes and other products contain ethanol concentrations as high as 25 percent because of its strength in killing germs.

An additional perk to alcohol based mouthwashes is the alcohol helps to dissolve some oils such as eucalyptol, methyl salicylate, menthol and thymol which provides an anti-bacterial effect that helps to reduce gum disease and cavities. It was once thought that alcohol mouth washes cause oral cancer, but there have been no proven studies that suggest it does, making alcohol the best and most effective mouthwash.
