Individualism-social Darwinism stated that because the survival of the fittest applied to nations as well as plants and animals, u.s. had to expand if it wanted to survive. anglo-Saxonism stated the Anglo-Saxon race was superior to all others, and it was America's destiny and duty to expand and civilize all of the inferior races. this expansion would benefit mankind. individualism was irrelevant, stating that with self-sacrifice, determination, and hard work, any man, no matter how humble his beginnings, could rise up and become great.
