Choosing an alcohol to drink after food is mainly about personal taste. There are several popular types of liquor that are often consumed but this list is not all-inclusive. The first popular after dinner drink would be a fine brandy. These liquors often have fruity, oaky undertones that make for a lovely finish to a meal.

Port wine is another popular choice, often served with cheeses and nuts. Liqueurs are also a popular choice. These are a bit less stiff-tasting and are a great option to go in or with coffee. Some people enjoy these with a sweet dessert as well.

Not all alcohols feel right after a meal. The type of alcohol you take after a meal can determine how you feel for the next couple of hours. When consuming alcohol, there are so many factors that play into how intoxicated you can become off of your beverage. Gender and weight are two of the largest factors for the effect of alcohol. Another factor is how much food is in your stomach at the time of alcohol consumption.

Many restaurants in certain states require that you order some sort of food dish when ordering any sort of alcoholic drink because the food lessens the effect of the alcohol. On an empty stomach, a person’s blood alcohol level peaks between 30 to 90 minutes, where as a person who has recently eaten, peaks between 1 and 6 hours.
