Food stamps are provided to those who are unable to make substantial enough of an income to support themselves or their families. The food stamp program is estimated to cost 69.8 billion dollars each year and has only increased in popularity. The negative side to food stamps is some Americans will take advantage of the government and this system.

Some citizens are dishonest and will be making a significant income, but will not report it the food stamp program and will still receive their monthly stipend for stamps. The increase of food stamps amongst Americans has caused tension amongst those that work hard for their income, as it causes the government to take a larger portion out of their income for taxes to help pay for food stamps.
