A hospital corpsman is an enlisted medical specialist that is enlisted in the United States Navy or part of a U.S. Marine Corps unit. A hospital corpsman has a wide variety of skills as well as capacities and locations in which they work. Some corpsman work on shore establishments such as naval hospitals and clinics, on ships, being the primary caregivers for sailors while they are on duty away from home.
In areas of war, hospital corpsman are out sometimes out in the battle field putting their own life before others, saving lives in the field. There have been 23 Medals of Honor given to hospital corpsmen since Pre-World War I.
